Ohio Authorities Considering Charges Against Bono Man who Confessed to Killing Infant Daughter

AUGUST 25, 2004 - Posted at 7:37 a.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR - Ohio authorities are deciding what to do about a man being held in Craighead County who says he killed his five-week-old daughter in Ohio in 1998.

Twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Pfeifer of Bono is being held in lieu of $750,000 bond after he was arrested over the weekend for beating his 11-week-old son.

Police said the death of the girl in Ohio had been ruled by authorities at the time to be a case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

In Craighead County, Pfeifer is charged with three counts of first-degree battery and filing a false report of a crime.

Ohio authorities were contacted and said they were reviewing the case to determine what action may be taken.

In the Arkansas case, police said Pfeifer gave a written statement that he'd found the infant with swelling to the head.  Then, during police questioning Pfeifer admitted he had injured his son intentionally.

During the investigation, police said, they learned Pfeifer and his wife had an infant daughter who had died in 1998.  He then stated that he killed that baby.

Pfeifer and his wife have two other children living in their home.  A judge ordered him to have no contact with them or any children under the age of 18.  He is to appear in court on September 24.
