Arrest Made This Morning in 2-Month Old Caraway-Area Murder Investigation

AUGUST 25, 2004 - Posted at 12:59 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR - Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann says his officers made an arrest this morning in connection with the June 12 or 13 stabbing death of 51-year-old Dennis Coats of the Caraway area.

Coats was last seen alive around 10:30 p.m. on June 12.  His body was found shortly before noon the next day in the St. Francis Sunkenlands of a remote, rugged area that most eastern Craighead County residents refer to as Hatchie Coon Island.  Authorities say Coats had been stabbed several times.

McCann would not release the name of the suspect when he informed K8 News of the arrest this afternoon, but did describe the person as a woman.  A probable cause hearing is set for 4 o'clock this afternoon before Judge Ray Spruell in the Jonesboro Municipal Justice Complex.
