Accused Agawam child rapist fugitive arrested in UT

A man wanted by police for child rape in Agawam was found and arrested Wednesday.

According to the U.S. Marshal Service, John T. Blomquist, 34, was arrested yesterday evening outside of a bar in Utah. 

Blomquist, a former resident of Agawam, MA, is accused of child rape, including two felony counts. A warrant was issues for him by the Agawam Police Department.  

U.S. Marshals in Springfield were working closely on this case with the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the Agawam Police Department. 

The U.S. Marshal service said Blomquist was actively taunting law enforcement authorities, sending post cards stating "catch me if you can." 

U.S. Marshals and state police detectives determined through investigation Blomquist was using a false identity under the name Bradley Scott Allen and was residing in the Utah area. 

U.S. Marshals in Utah set up surveillance cameras on a location where Blomquist was said to visit often.

Shortly after setting up surveillance, the deputy Marshals observed Blomquist exit a local business and jump into a vehicle. 

Blomquist was then approached by Marshals as he admitted his true identity. 

According to U.S. Marshals, Blomquist faces additional charges which are pending in Utah after the Marshals discovered he was carrying a gun at the time of arrest.
