Saturday Blytheville Aeroplex fire ruled suspicious

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Blytheville Fire Department responded to a call Saturday night that two vacant buildings at the Aeroplex had caught fire. Now, the BFD has ruled the blaze suspicious.

When fire-fighters arrived on scene, a third building began to catch fire.

"The fire load that we had eventually made us wait till the third facility," said Lt. Rickie Crawford.

Blytheville Fire Department received help from three other fire departments including Armorel, Gosnell and Dell. Extra help was much needed as it took several hours to put the fire out.

"We were on scene for about five hours," said Lt. Crawford. "We had three other departments assist us in mutual aid."

It took quite a crew along with several trucks and equipment to maintain the fire from spreading.

"There were eight trucks on scene with two of those being aero support," said Lt. Crawford.

Blytheville Fire Department is unsure how the vacant buildings caught fire. Right now the cause is undetermined and is still under investigation. That investigation has been turned over to the police department.
