JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Customarily getting on the bus with their gloves in hand, the Arkansas State baseball team hopped on a charter bus and headed down Stadium Blvd. for Lafayette, Louisiana and the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The team backed into postseason playing taking the final spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament after dropping two of three in their final weekend series against Arkansas-Little Rock.
Arkansas State will play the 1 seed Troy on Wednesday at 12:30 in Lafayette with Senior Ace Daniel Wright on the bump for the Red Wolves. "He's our best pitcher," said ASU Head Baseball Coach Tommy Raffo after Saturday's loss, "We are going to need him to go deep in the game."
This years baseball tournament will feature a different format than in years past. In previous conference baseball tournaments, the format has been a pool play style bracket broken up into divisions of 4. This years tourney will be a double elimination format with a losers and winners bracket, making what the teams need to do to advance a little easier to figure out. "It really won't make much of difference," said Raffo, "We still just need to go down there and win game one."
If the Red Wolves can win game one against Troy they will play the winner of the Western Kentucky/Florida Atlantic game. If they lose, they will play the loser of that same game.
