Child Kidnapping/Murder Victim Laid to Rest

AUGUST 28, 2004

WEST MEMPHIS, AR - It was in a Mississippi county field where Patricia Ann Miles's body was found on August 19th.

"Someone so innocent, a child. She hasn't had a chance to live out her life. Who hasn't hurt anybody...... who can't defend herself" said a person who attended the 7-year-old girl's funeral Saturday afternoon in West Memphis.

"Today is not a day to be sad, it's a day to rejoice" said a cousin of Patricia.

The Beautiful Zion Baptist Church in West Memphis was filled with friends and family who keep precious memories of Patricia Ann Miles near to their heart.

"We're trying to work hard to make sure her memory is taken care of, kids in the future, and ways to protect our children" said her father.

Many people in the community remember special times shared with young Patricia, and now, those same community members will comfort the family, as they must move forward without her.

"She's at peace, and she's resting at the lord's side."

Friends say it's difficult to comfort a grieving family.

"Pray, keep the faith, God will see them through this."

The arms of the whole community are extended and they will embrace this family as they face days of sorrow adjusting to life without the bright eyes of Patricia Miles.

"Through it all God still takes care of us, and he still loves us."

Although the full details of her mysterious death have yet to unfold, family members say they take comfort knowing she's not suffering anymore.
