Capital Murder Charge Anticipated This Week in Case of Gilmore Girl

AUGUST 30, 2004 - Posted at 11:17 a.m. CDT

GILMORE, AR - Crittenden County police say a capital murder charge could be issued this week or next week for a woman accused of kidnapping a 7-year-old girl whose body was found August 19.

An autopsy showed the girl was suffocated.  A woman who sometimes babysat the girl, Jo Ann Buchanan, has been charged with kidnapping the girl and is being held in the Crittenden County jail in Marion on $1 million bond.

Crittenden County sheriff's investigator Thomas Martin said investigators are following new leads and waiting on more results from the state Crime Laboratory.

Last week, a DNA test confirmed Patricia Ann Miles of Gilmore was the person found by authorities near a bean field in Mississippi County, about five miles north of her hometown.  The test had been requested by family.

Nearly 1,000 people attended Patricia's funeral at Beautiful Zion Baptist Church in West Memphis on Saturday.
