KENNETT -- One Region 8 family's contemporary kitchen received quite an honor in a national magazine. Paige Joslin's kitchen has had a facelift. Before was a small room with dark stained cabinets and a simple wallpaper border.
"We knew we needed a lot more storage," said Joslin, a Homemade Gourmet Pampered Chef consultant.
And today, her kitchen is nearly unrecognizable.
"It's just awesome," laughed Joslin, who worked with her husband to redo the kitchen.
The couple spent much of 2003 remodeling their home, and when Joslin ran across a contest in the Taste of Home magazine, it caught her attention. "The Dream Kitchen" contest was searching for the best before and after remodeling job.
"We entered two days before the contest deadline, and a couple of months later I got a call saying I was the grand prize winner," gushed Joslin.
She says she was pleasantly surprised when her kitchen took home the grand prize, "I've never even entered anything before, so this is pretty cool."
After about two months of very hard work, the kitchen was complete. The only thing left in the same place was the sink, dishwasher, and the refrigerator.
"It was neat seeing our ideas come into fruition because in knew what I wanted in my head, but I wasn't sure I would be able to convey that to the cabinet maker, and my husband, and several other people who were key people in the process," said Joslin.
Joslin says the custom made cabinets, display racks, and much more storage are a few highlights her new kitchen has. She says the phone calls and emails she has received has been quite a thrill.
"This is the coolest thing that will happen to me in my lifetime besides my husband and kids," laughed Joslin as she put away dishes in her new kitchen cabinets.
