JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- The Jonesboro Urban Housing Authority was presented an important check Thursday morning.
State Farm Insurance awarded them a $15,000 dollar grant. The money will be used to fund the counseling program, which works to help people go through the process of purchasing and maintaining a home.
The director of the Urban Housing Authority, Sharon Poe, says, "We've lost all HUD funding. We lost our CBDG funding this year and we've been providing housing counseling since 2004 and our money right now has just dried up."
Bob Gist with State Farm says they look at all charities and organizations and try to pick those which will best serve the community. "An agency like this is really needed in an area like this because it is rural and a lot of low income here. When we step in and help an agency like this it can really facilitate home ownership and that's really what we're trying to do," says Gist.
The counseling program at the housing authority helps not only their clients, but those living in surrounding areas.
