WALDRON, Ark. (AP) - A memorial is set for Wednesday for Scott County Sheriff Cody Carpenter, who died while trying to rescue two women from rising floodwaters.
The memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Waldron High School football field.
According to his obituary, Carpenter began his career as a dispatcher with the Scott County Sheriff's Office before working his way up to the sheriff's position. The obituary says Carpenter was a man of deep faith who cherished time spent with his family.
Carpenter, who was 41, leaves behind a wife and four children. He died alongside Arkansas Game and Fish Wildlife Officer Joel Campora on Friday while trying to save two women from flash floods.
A visitation is planned for all day Tuesday at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home in Waldron.
