Austin Cook earns All-Region honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ( – Senior Austin Cook and junior Sebastian Cappelen each earned Division I PING All-Central Region honors it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of American on late last week.

The honors are the third all-region selection for Cappelen, one for each year of his Arkansas career, and the first for Cook.

"I'm really proud of Austin and Sebastian," Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin said.  "Each carried us at various points in the year and put us in position to be very competitive at the NCAA Championship.  We'll miss Austin's leadership and production next year, but have another leader in Sebastian to help us forward."

Cook's all-region honor is a capstone to a great Razorback career that ranks him No. 11 in terms of career stroke average at 73.37.  An honorable mention all-American as a sophomore following his 10th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, Cook was a two-time Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and maintains a 3.83 grade point average in biology.  In addition, Cook was a 2010 SEC Freshman team member and two-time Capital One Academic All-District VI selection by CoSIDA.  This season, Cook had his best in terms of stroke average at 73.00 with three top 10 and seven top 20 finishes.  He counted toward Arkansas' team score in 35 of his 37 rounds.

A first-team All-SEC honoree for the second straight season, Cappelen's signature moment this season came at the SEC Championships when he masterfully navigated the Seaside Course at St. Simons Island, Ga., to an individual victory, Arkansas' second in school history.  The all-time career leader in stroke average, 72.00, Cappelen was named to his third Palmer Cup squad earlier in the spring and begins play on June 7 at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Del.  Cappelen's career has included three collegiate victories and a win at the invitation-only Patriot All-American last winter.  He is a two-time honorable mention all-American, three-time All-SEC performer and two-time SEC Player of the Week.
