JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- A groundbreaking ceremony took place in Southwest Jonesboro Tuesday morning.
St. Bernard's Villa is officially under construction. It will be a residential complex for seniors that need a higher level of assisted living care and a secure memory care facility for Alzheimer's patients.
President and CEO Chris Barber says they took on this project to meet the need in the community. Barber says, "We've heard the numerous stories of family members. The dilemma that puts them from a physical, emotional and financial burden taking care of their loved ones. So, really the need is there."
The memory care unit will house 30 residents while the assisted living unit will hold 86. Construction will take anywhere from 12 to 14 months.
In Arkansas alone, there are 76,000 people affected by Alzheimer's or some from of dementia.
