Manhunt in Baxter County after fuel theft

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT)- Baxter County authorities are searching for a man and woman they say led them on a car chase after stealing fuel from a store in Timbo.

Around 5:40 Tuesday night, the Baxter County Sheriff's Office were told by Stone County authorities they were involved in a chase on Spring Creek Rd. in Big Flat. A male driver and female passenger were in a white Ford pickup truck fleeing police after they were accused of stealing fuel from a Timbo, AR store.

Wildlife officers with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission joined in the chase around 6 p.m. which made its way North on Hwy. 341 in Baxter County. After driving down several county roads, the driver and passenger ran away on foot into the woods.

The Baxter County Sheriff's Office then used its helicopter and tracking dogs to assist the manhunt.

Baxter County Sheriff, John Montgomery, says the driver is believed to have a felony warrant from Mountain View for a drug offense. Deputies could not provide a description.
