Region 8 women get informed about breast and ovarian cancer

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A community forum gave Region 8 women the opportunityto ask important health questions.

St. Bernard's Medical Group doctors answered questions aboutbreast and ovarian cancer risks and genetic testing for these diseases.

The doctors discussed breast cancersusceptibility genes 1 and 2. Angelina Jolie decided to have apreventive double mastectomy once she discovered she had a BRCA1 mutation, a mutation that increases the chance of breastand ovarian cancer. Oncologist, Dr Marc Monte said that afterJolie's decision, many women had questions.

"Women have a lot of questions regarding what's the test, how muchdoes it cost? What's the implication for myself or my family? These are verylegitimate questions," said Monte.

The forum was held at the St. Bernard's Auditorium and lasted from5:30 pm to 6:30 PM.
