BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) – Police are investigating an early morning fire in Batesville as a potential arson.

The Batesville Fire Department was called to the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections office, located at 913 25th St., around 2 a.m. Monday.

Fire Chief Brent Gleghorn says the office sustained major damage. He says he spoke to the office manager, who expects that the fire caused about $100,000 in damage.

Chief Gleghorn says the fire was contained in less than two hours.

Arkansas State Police and the Independence County Sheriff's Office have now taken over the investigation and have not ruled out arson.

Region 8 News will continue to track this story and provide any updates as soon as they become available.
