COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

South Carolina senior LB Dantzler has earned third-team All-America honors at the designated hitter position by Baseball America.

Dantzler was the Gamecocks' leading hitter this season with a .322 average (69-for-214) with 15 homers and 53 RBI.  His .444 on-base percentage and .617 slugging percentage were also top marks among the squad.

Dantzler was drafted in the 14th round by the Toronto Blue Jays last week.

He was named Capital One Academic All-American of the Year and was Carolina's male nominee for the 2012-13 H. Boyd McWhorter Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  He is one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award as well.

Dantzler is the second Gamecock to earn All-America honors this year.  Earlier this month, senior left-hander Tyler Webb picked up third-team honors from Collegiate Baseball.  The Gamecocks also had a pair of freshmen pick up Freshman All-America honors with left-hander Jack Wynkoop (7-3, 3.09 ERA) honored by Collegiate Baseball and second baseman Max Schrock (.282-6-39) selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Dylan Thompson threw for three touchdowns and No. 24 South Carolina's maligned defense stood strong on a fourth-quarter goal line stand to topple No. 6 Georgia 38-35 on Saturday night.
No. 24 South Carolina's defense showed it's not nearly as bad as it looked two weeks ago - and maybe that No. 6 Georgia isn't the runaway favorite in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division.

Georgia can establish itself as a top-tier beast if it gets by South Carolina this weekend - and USC would drop to 0-2 in the league with a loss. Tennessee travels to Oklahoma, where Coach Bob Stoops doesn't believe the SEC is all-powerful.
