POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

Law enforcement recovered truckloads of property during an investigation spanning five counties.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs said they’ve already returned about a third of the stolen items to the rightful owners, but there’s still more to go.

Dobbs said they estimate the stuff is worth between $50,000 to $100,000.

Dobbs said an investigation led them to a storage shed in Western Butler County. They recovered some items from there, and found the rest of the loot at two other locations.

Dobbs wants people to remember to keep a record of their belongings.

“That's when identifying marks and features and serial numbers and things like that become very important because even though we recover it you know obviously we want people to show ownership of it, we want to get them their things back," said Dobbs.

Now Dobbs said they’re looking through search records to find who the rest of the property belongs to.

"Unfortunately this is something that happens it's not irregular for this to happen, a few times a year for us to have a burglary investigation recovery of this magnitude, several truckloads of items, it's just kind of the way of the world, the economy, the drug problem, all the things totaling together, to make this kind of thing possible, you hate to see this much thievery, but you do at least feel rewarded when the folks who were victimized get their stuff back,” said Dobbs.

Dobbs said they have a suspect and warrant out for arrest. The person is charged with receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing and Dobbs expects additional charges.
