VIOLET HILL, AR (KAIT/AP)- Authorities have ended a search for a child who was reportedly seen walking into a wooded area in northern Arkansas.
Chief Investigator Charles Melton with the Izard County Sheriff's Office said Friday that searchers have found no sign of a child and that door-to-door questioning of residents turned up no missing children.
The Baxter County Sheriff's Office helicopter was out Thursday helping the Izard County Sheriff's Office in the search for the possible missing 3 year old.
Baxter County Sheriff, John Montgomery, says the child was reportedly seen going into a wooded in the Violet Hill area around 1 p.m. Thursday.
Along with the Izard and Baxter County Sheriff's Office, the K-9 Tracking Dog Team from the Arkansas Department of Corrections were also in the area helping with the search.
Melton says the three witnesses - all in one home - may have simply been mistaken in what they saw and had no apparent reason to fabricate their report.
