Teen killed in Pemiscot County wreck

HAYTI, MO (KFVS) -

One teen is dead, another seriously hurt following a single-vehicle crash Saturday evening.

The crash happened on County Road 344 at 5:55 p.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 16-year-old Brittany Travis of Caruthersville was behind the wheel of a 2003 Dodge Ram when it drove off the left side of the roadway two miles southeast of Hayti. Travis overcorrected, causing the truck to run off the right side of the road and overturn.

Troopers say Travis was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pemiscot County coroner.

A passenger, 16-year-old Whitney Bishop also of Caruthersville sustained serious injuries in the crash. Troopers say she was wearing her seat belt. Bishop was taken to Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti for treatment.

Funeral arrangements are pending for Brittany Travis.
