Juneteenth Celebration in Pocahontas over the weekend

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - A celebration kicked off Saturday morning at the Eddie Mae Herron Center in Pocahontas for the Juneteenth Festival.

Juneteenth celebrated the Emancipation Proclamation and freedom from slavery.

The event lasted all day and featured historic games, a car and tractor show, a quilt showing, and several booths for the family.

Wanda Hogue is a Board Member of the Eddie Mae Herron and she says people need to be aware of the importance of Saturday's event.

"It's important for the community to remember why we're having this today and we are so fortunate here in Pocahontas to have excellent community support of the Eddie Mae Herron Center", says Hogue.

People who attended the event could also make a donation to the Eddie Mae Herron Center.
