PIGGOTT, AR (KAIT) - It's a town of almost four thousand people but Piggott Mayor, Gerald Morris has been working to help it grow.

"We decided some time ago that we needed to strive to get more businesses and more people in our town," said Mayor Morris.

A retired business man, Mayor Morris said it's all about bringing into Piggott what is going to attract others to want to stay or move there.

"More business breeds more business," said Mayor Morris. "That's just the way the system works."

Mayor Morris believes where there are businesses, there is money.

"It's an economic thing for the city," said Mayor Morris.

New jobs have also been a way to bring new people in. Many were hired for the opening of the Circle K and McDonald's.

"About a hundred people for that one complex," said Mayor Morris.

So far, Mayor Morris can already tell it is going to be successful.

"What we've seen so far and they have only been open a few days, is additional business coming to town," said Mayor Morris.

Nicole Green was born and raised in Piggott and said she is excited for what her home town is becoming.

"I'm excited to have it actually be a community for families and with that growth it brings other stuff," said Green. "Hopefully before too long we can become Paragould or Pocahontas or Jonesboro!"
