Jonesboro murder suspect pleads guilty, sentenced

JONESBORO,AR (KAIT) – The man arrested for killing another man in Jonesboro has pleadguilty to first degree murder and was sentenced.

ZachMorrison with Prosecutor Scott Ellington's office tells Region 8 News CalvinJackson entered the plea on Tuesday.

Prosecutorscharged Jackson with first degree murder in the shooting death of 20-year-oldDenico "Nico" Jeffery.

Theshooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on June 26, in the 300-block of North Allis.Jeffery was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuriesaround midnight.

Jackson was arrested June 27, near an apartment complex on AllisStreet, according to Sgt. Lyle Waterworth with the Jonesboro Police Department.

During the course of the investigation, witnesses told police thatJackson was the shooter.

A court affidavit states that during an interview with police,Jackson told them that he had an ongoing problem with Jeffery, and that heintentionally shot him.

Jackson was sentenced to 19 years in prison. He will get credit forsome time served.
