JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The man arrested for killing another man in Jonesboro has plead guilty to first degree murder and was sentenced.

Zach Morrison with Prosecutor Scott Ellington's office tells Region 8 News Calvin Jackson entered the plea on Tuesday.

Prosecutors charged Jackson with first degree murder in the shooting death of 20-year-old Denico "Nico" Jeffery.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on June 26, in the 300-block of North Allis. Jeffery was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries around midnight.

Jackson was arrested June 27, near an apartment complex on Allis Street, according to Sgt. Lyle Waterworth with the Jonesboro Police Department.

During the course of the investigation, witnesses told police that Jackson was the shooter.

A court affidavit states that during an interview with police, Jackson told them that he had an ongoing problem with Jeffery, and that he intentionally shot him.

Jackson was sentenced to 19 years in prison. He will get credit for some time served.
