ORLANDO (OrlandoSentinel.com) - The Orlando Sentinel has ranked all 125 Football Bowl Subdivision teams in the country. The Sentinel staff will take a closer look at a new team daily, counting backward from No. 125 to our projected No. 1 team.
Today at No. 60: Arkansas State
Coach: Bryan Harsin (0-0, first season; 0-0 overall)
2012 record: 10-3 (7-1 in Sun Belt, conference champions)
Look back: After charismatic coach Hugh Freeze led the Red Wolves to a bowl game in 2012 and left the program, it was unclear whether Arkansas State would be able to repeat as Sun Belt champions and hold off the league's other improving teams.
However, Gus Malzahn accepted the head coaching job and steered the team to another Sun Belt title. Arkansas State also collected first FBS bowl win in school history. Malzahn's Arkansas State team got off to a shaky 2-3 start during the 2012 season, but the team won the final eight games of the year. The win streak included a historic 17-13 victory over then-No 25 Kent State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.
Outlook: Arkansas State has the talent to compete to remain competitive and post another winning record despite the transition to a new coach and starting quarterback, but the team will likely have a hard time winning a third consecutive Sun Belt title.
