Police prepare for downtown July 4 celebration

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Organizers for this year's Let Freedom Sing celebration are expected about 160,000 people to pack into downtown Nashville to watch the fireworks show on July 4.

Traffic is the biggest concern for police. They're asking people to be patient coming and going after the show.

As far as security threats, police supervisors said its See Something, Say Something plan will be in place, just like for the Country Music Marathon and the CMA Music Fest.

The next time you're downtown, whether for the fireworks show or for something else, don't be surprised if an officer tries to engage you in a conversation.

Police in the downtown Central Precinct call it "Greeting and Meeting."

If you're in a paid lot or garage, they want to make sure you've locked your car and secured your valuables.

That chat gives them an opportunity to find people who may be up to no good.

The easiest thing to do to prevent crimes like these, lock it up every time you leave your car.
