Metro Nashville looks to reallocate flood aid

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Metro Nashville officials say they want to reallocate more than $7 million in federal aid for flood mitigation from housing assistance to riverfront revitalization.

Metro Development and Housing Agency official Angie Hubbard told The Tennessean that funding isn't needed anymore for homes damaged in 2010 when the Cumberland River overflowed its banks.

Hubbard said the agency consulted with city officials and decided the funding would be best spent on aiding plans for the west bank of the Cumberland River.

MDHA's board and the Metro Council would need to approve the proposal, then it would go before U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

There won't be a public hearing on the proposed changes, but the metro housing agency is accepting public comments through July 2.
