FAYETTEVILLE (ArkansasRazorbacks.com) - Three Razorbacks are featured on watch lists for a College Football Performance Award, with defensive ends Chris Smith and Trey Flowers included on the Defensive Lineman Trophy list and Zach Hocker on the list for the Placekicker Trophy.
Smith started all 12 games in 2012 and was named honorable-mention All-SEC after recording 52 tackles, 13.0 for loss with 9.5 sacks, 12 quarterback hurries, four pass breakups and one fumble. He and Jadeveon Clowney are the only two returners in the SEC with at least 9.0 sacks last season. Smith's 13.0 tackles for loss ranked seventh on Arkansas' single-season list, and his average of 1.08 tackles for loss per game tied for fifth in the conference. His average of 0.79 sacks per game ranked fourth in the SEC and 25th in the NCAA. He enters 2013 tied for 12th on UA's career sacks list with 13.0.
Flowers also started all 12 games in 2012, recording 50 tackles, 13.0 for loss with 6.0 sacks, 11 quarterback hurries and three pass breakups. He tied with Smith for fifth in the SEC with an average of 1.08 tackles for loss per game and also ranked eighth in the conference with an average of 0.50 sacks per game. Flowers and Smith combined to make Arkansas the only school to have multiple players ranked in the top five in tackles for loss and in the top eight in sacks in the SEC. Flowers recorded 3.5 sacks in the 24-7 win at Auburn, the second-highest single-game total in the SEC and tied for the eighth-best single-game output in the NCAA in 2012.
Hocker enters the 2013 season already holding school career records for points by a kicker with 287, made PATs with 143 and PAT attempts with 145. He also is the SEC's active career leader in made PATs, total points and points per game. Last season he led the NCAA with an average kickoff of 64.7 yards, ranked second in the SEC and sixth in the country with his 67.27 touchback percentage and ranked third in the conference and tied for 11th in the nation with 39 touchbacks. He was a perfect 32-of-32 on PATs and connected on 11 field goals for a team-leading total of 65 points.
