JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Jonesboro man is facing drug charges after leading police on a chase Monday night.
According to Jonesboro police, Melvin Grimes was arrested and charged with having meth with the intent to deliver, possessing drug paraphernalia and fleeing.
Jonesboro police officers were investigating a possible drug sale in the parking lot of Parker Road and Shelby Drive near Front Page Cafe. Grimes was in the parking lot driving a red Ford Ranger with a trailer when officers approached him. Police say Grimes sped off from the parking lot going west on Parker.
Grimes, according to police, let a woman out of the truck near the intersection of Harrisburg Road and W. Parker Road. The woman was interviewed and cleared of any wrongdoing by police.
She told police she was with Grimes because he said he was going to pick up a motorcycle in Trumann. However, the woman told officers Grimes intended to sell drugs to someone in the parking lot.
Police say Grimes avoided spikes strips during the pursuit, but was later arrested at his home, 1712 Tall Birch Drive, by Arkansas State Police.
Officers recovered three baggies that tested positive for meth that Grimes is accused of getting rid of during the pursuit. A drug pipe was also found by officers at Grimes' home.
A judge set Grimes' bond at $30,000.
