PRESCOTT, AZ (CBS5) -

At the vigil Tuesday night, tears, prayers and at times silence filled the Prescott night air, as the community remembered the 19 men who made the ultimate sacrifice.

With each step, Colleen Turbyfill was reminded of her son, 27-year-old Travis Turbyfill. She said she adopted Travis Turbyfill when she married his father.

"I met him when he was 4 years old, he brought me a button that had fallen off of his shirt and asked me if I could sew it back on, and he had me at hello," Colleen Turbyfill said.

For an unsuspecting passer-by, the paw prints painted on the ground are just a sign of school spirit. But for Colleen Turbyfill, they're a piece of Travis Turbyfill she'll always cherish.

"One side is blue and the other side is gold and my son designed and cut that out at his dad's fab shop," Colleen Turbyfill said.

Colleen Turbyfill said Travis Turbyfill had been in the Marine Corps and was married in 2009. He and his wife have two little girls, ages 3 and 1. She said she knows Travis Turbyfill spent his last days doing what he loved.

"It was a great bunch of guys, Travis had such a good sense of humor, and they had nicknames, and he played games on everybody," Colleen Turbyfill said.

Colleen Turbyfill said she's had a day to process what happened.

"I was so mad when the sun came up Monday morning because I thought it was a traitor, how could it do that?" Colleen Turbyfill asked.

But she said there is no such thing as life without Travis Turbyfill because he will be with her and the rest of his family every day.

"Travis will never be forgotten but I will miss him every single day," Colleen Turbyfill said.
