NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The driver of a motorcycle who allegedly fled from the scene of a crash early Wednesday, leaving his injured passenger behind, faces charges.

Police said Jeremiah Burnett, 34, was riding with a female passenger along Nolensville Pike just after midnight when he slammed into the back of a sport utility vehicle near Antioch Pike.

The passenger was tossed from the motorcycle, but then instead of checking on her, Burnett apparently left her as he ran away, leaving her and the bike behind.

Officers found Kelsey Leann Bowen, 20, on the sidewalk still wearing her helmet. She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses said the motorcyclist was limping after the crash, and police said they found a blood trail at the scene that led them to a home on Wheeler Avenue. The resident said Burnett showed up, said he was involved in a motorcycle crash and was driven from the area by friends.

Burnett then showed up to the emergency room at Summit Medical Center, initially telling officers that he was hurt when falling from the back of a truck.

He eventually told police he was driving the motorcycle when it crashed.

Police said when Burnett is discharged from the hospital, he will be charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, failure to render aid in a personal injury crash, failure to report an accident, driving on a revoked license and making a false report to police.
