Bryce Giddens on Rimington Trophy watch list

JONESBORO, Ark. ( – Arkansas State sophomore center Bryce Giddens is one of 44 players across the country who have been named to the 2013 Rimington Trophy's fall watch list, announced Tuesday by the Rimington Trophy committee.

The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the nation's premier college center, and Giddens joins Tom Castilaw (2011) and Tanner Jenkins (2006) as all-time Arkansas State players to earn a spot on the award's watch list.

Giddens played in every game last season and started the last 12, including the Bowl, at center as a true freshman for A-State's offense that ranked first in the Sun Belt Conference in rushing offense and second in total offense and scoring offense.  He anchored an offensive line that didn't allow a sack in six games and ranked 17th in the nation in sacks allowed.

The Moultrie, Ga. native was part of A-State's offensive line that helped the team rank 23rd in the nation in total offense and rushing offense, 26th in scoring offense and 43rd in passing offense.  The Red Wolves' offensive line paved the way for 31 rushing touchdowns and held the line for 25 passing scores, both the second most in the Sun Belt Conference.

Giddens helped lead the way for five 200-yard rushing games by ASU and 2,681 rushing yards.  The A-State offense recorded over 400 yards total offense in nine games and broke the school records for touchdowns (58), total offense (6,067 yards) and first downs (319).

With Giddens at center, A-State claimed its first victory over a nationally-ranked team since joining the FBS with a win over No. 25 Kent State in the Bowl.  The Red Wolves ended the 2012 season receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top-25 polls.
