CRAIGHEAD CO, AR (KAIT) – Craighead County authorities busted a huge marijuana growing operation Friday night.

According to Investigator Justin Rolland, 44-year-old Alton Lunsford was arrested Friday night after police received a tip about a grow operation off County Road 837, on the levee.

Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd said after surveying the area the deputies heard a four-wheeler and found the driver watering the plants with his 8 year old son.

The deputies counted 30 plants but Boyd said he believes there could be more. He said they are still searching the area for more plants.

The suspect, Lunsford will face charges of possession of a controlled substance and manufacturing a controlled substance.

Boyd was pleased that someone called in the tip.

"It's very important in our law enforcement that the community works with us and because without them we couldn't do our job," Boyd said. "It takes all of us working together to have something like this come about."

Boyd said with this amount he believes there was intent to sell.

"Where the marijuana was located, there was evidence he'd been watering," Boyd said. "There were empty jugs and some full jugs with him."
