MARKED TREE, AR (KAIT) – A shooting happened Friday afternoon in Marked Tree on Wiggington Street.

The victim was flown to the MED in Memphis, where he received treatment for one gunshot wound.

Sgt. Jerry Long with the Marked Tree Police Department says the incident started as an argument, when 35-year-old James Ford was shot. He was bleeding from the chest when officers found him.

According to police, James Ford and Albert Sidney Phillips got into an argument in Phillips' yard. Witnesses told police Phillips shot Ford and fled the scene. Police say Phillips later turned himself over to officers about an hour later.

During an interview Phillips told police he was in his yard when Ford and another man pulled up at his home and wanted to fight. Phillips said he didn't want to fight and told the two men to leave his home.

Phillips then told police he went in his house and shut the door. Ford then entered the home where he pulled out a pocket knife and walked towards Phillips. Phillips told police he got his 12 gauge shotgun and fired one shot at Ford hitting him in the upper chest.

Phillips is charged with aggravated assault and attempted second degree murder. Bond was set at $10,000.
