JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A group of Region 8 students are spending their summer preparing for any and every type of disaster.
Around 30 7th and 8th grade students are participating in Arkansas State's "Disaster Camp."
Students are learning about disaster planning, first aid, CPR, and even different kinds of coping strategies that'll help victims deal with the aftermath of a disaster.
Jared Playter of MacArthur Junior High says he wants to know what to do in case a disaster hits.
"Some new tactics if there's something wrong at my house and just to protect my family."
Director of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management at ASU, Debbie Persell, says every family need this training. "We think it is so important that every person in a family have accountability for their own safety in a disaster. Yes, help may come but in the short run your responsible for yourself."
Organizers hope to make Disaster Camp an annual event.
