East Cleveland Murders: Perception or reality?

Cleveland is once again in the spotlight, this time for the serial murders. Three women were found dead in East Cleveland.

A suspect is now facing serious charges and the case is making local and international headlines just months after three women held captive for a decade were found alive.

So is there a perception that we live in a violent city? 

"The people that have done these things Anthony Sowell, Castro. They don't define who we are as a city," says Gil Santiago.

Several people in downtown shared their opinions with 19 Action News on "perception versus reality."

"I think it is probably giving Cleveland a bad name cause it's like back to back with those other cases. But, hey it can happen anywhere," says Gwen Hopkins.

"It's such a beautiful city. It has so much to offer. I feel very safe here in Cleveland and I enjoy the area," says Kim Miller.

A view of a city others who don't live here may see differently and for many who call Cleveland their home what others may see is not reality.

"I love our city. It's an amazing city we live in. It's a beautiful place to be," added Santiago.
