Mission Outreach hands out food for almost 200 families

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – People lined around the corner Wednesday morning, waiting to get into Mission Outreach where they were handing out thousands of pounds of food.

The food was provided by the USDA, a federally funded program that provides nutritious food in hope to improve the health of low-income pregnant women. They also work to help new mother up to one year postpartum, infants, children up to 6 years of age, and elderly people to at least 60 years of age.

Jeremy Biggs with the Mission Outreach told Region 8 News the need is growing.

"We continue to see a record high demand," said Biggs. "Last year we increased over 20%. We served over 50,000 meals and distributed over 4800 food boxes just from our facility.  And this year we're even seeing a 5 to 6% increases on those numbers."

The organization was able to hand out food for 196 families.
