PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) –People lined around the corner Wednesday morning, waiting to get into MissionOutreach where they were handing out thousands of pounds of food.
The food was provided bythe USDA, a federally funded program that provides nutritious food in hope toimprove the health of low-income pregnant women. They also work to help newmother up to one year postpartum, infants, children up to 6 years of age, andelderly people to at least 60 years of age.
Jeremy Biggs with the Mission Outreachtold Region 8 News the need is growing.
"We continue to see a record highdemand," said Biggs. "Last year we increased over 20%. We served over 50,000meals and distributed over 4800 food boxes just from our facility. And this year we're even seeing a 5 to 6%increases on those numbers."
The organization was able to handout food for 196 families.
