Police warn of social security fraud

POPLAR BLUFF, MO(KAIT) – Police in Poplar Bluff are warning residents not to give informationto those posing as a social security benefits card company.

According to Capt.David Sutton with PBPD, the department has received complaints from residents whoare receiving text messages claiming to be from Direct Express.

The textmessage has a number to call. Once called,victims are asked to give their benefit card number, birth date and socialsecurity number.

Direct Express hassaid they will not contact customers for this information.

Anyone who may havefallen victim to this incident is encouraged to contact Direct Express immediately.If a financial loss has been suffered, police say to file a complaint withlocal law enforcement.
