MARION, AR (KAIT) – A West Memphis man found guilty of raping three children and fled to Michigan has been sentenced to life in prison plus 100 years.

According to Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington, Stanley James Carter of West Memphis, 46, was given life in prison plus fifty years for each of the remaining charges for three counts of rape on Monday.

Carter was on trial for the rape of three girls under the age of 10 at the Crittenden County Circuit Court in Marion. While out on bond, police say Carter did not show up for court on July 24. When officers went to his last known address, they were told he had not been seen since the night before.

Carter was arrested in Grand Rapids, Michigan without incident on July 25 , police say. Tips into Crittenden County Crimestoppers is what led to the arrest according to Capt. Ken Mitchell with the West Memphis Police Department. Carter waved extradition and returned to Arkansas to face sentencing.

The trial continued and the jury found Carter guilty on three counts of rape.
