Copper theft lands two men in the Jackson County Jail

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) – Two men found themselves behind bars after police say the pair stole copper wire from a Jackson County business and sold it for cash.

In a news release, Lt. Patrick Weatherford with the Newport Police Department says 34-year-old Jimmy Bagwell and 48-year-old James Osborn were arrested after police searched their apartment on the 400 block of Hazel Street in Newport.

Police say their investigation began on Monday when they learned that someone broke into the Farmer's Electric lot on Highway 367 North and stole several rolls of copper wiring.

After reviewing footage, Police identified Bagwell as the suspect. They also learned that he was dropped off by a vehicle being driven by Osborn.

Both men told police they sold the copper to a local scrap dealer.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Jackson County Detention Center.
