Catching fish and fighting drug abuse

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-  Efforts to fight drug abuse took place at the Jonesboro Elks Lodge over the weekend.

The "High on Fishing, Not Drugs" fishing derby was held Saturday.

Families from all over Region 8 were invited for activities and to teach kids about drug awareness. They enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers and special prizes for those who caught the biggest AND smallest fish.

President Chuck Rizor says events like this are important to help educate kids in the community. "We make a difference for some children in our community and just by doing this and making the children more aware of what we're trying to do with the community," Rizor said.

Dare officers also came out to support the event and encourage kids to say "no" to drugs.
