South Jonesboro - Booming Part of Town

JONESBORO- Traffic in Jonesboro can sometimes make it seem as if the town is busting out of the seams. It's not yet, but it's growing fast, and right now South Jonesboro is the hot spot.

There are many reasons for the southern expansion. Some people would argue that the Nettleton and Valley View School districts are attracting new families. But from a Realtor's perspective the undeveloped area is like a land of opportunity.

"The area offers buyers bigger lots and people don't mind driving a little further for the extra elbow room," said Crye-Leike Realtor Belinda Wimpy.

There are about 7 subdivisions under construction right now and acting City Planner Ron Shipley isn't surprised. "It's a situation where once one developer develops an area and things are going well, everybody wants a piece of the pie."

Once all of these new roof tops pop up, commercial developers follow. That might explain the video rental store that's in the work on South Caraway Road. A new apartment complex going up right down the street.

"This is going to be a hot area right now, it just goes back and fourth," said Shipley.

Once the new Mall at Turtle Creek is complete, city officials expect the city to grow in all directions.
