BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - With workers turning their attention to the endzones the new field turf being installed at Pioneer Stadium started to look like a football field.
The Pioneers will be playing on a brand new FieldTurf surface for the 2013 season and work has been going steadily this summer to get it completed. According to the coaching staff, the work is a little behind and it was hoped the field would be ready on Thursday. They say that probably won't be the case but it won't be long until it's ready.
The new turf will be similar to the old turf in color and design. The field features a large "B" on the 50 yard line and the checkerboard end zones will remain in tact.
The process of installing the checkerboard look is a tedious one that is currently the final stage of the installation process. In order to create the signature orange and black look, workers must lay out the design and the individually place the squares and mesh them together to create a smooth surface.
The Pioneers are coming off a season that saw them make their second straight 5A State Title Game appearance. Dave King and the Pioneers will open up the new turf against Springdale on September 6.
