ASU alum Brad Allen throws 7 shutout innings in Tuesday win

LANSING, Mich. ( - Brad Allen tossed seven strong inning and led the South Bend Silver Hawks (22-16, 66-41) to a 4-0 series-opening win over the Lansing Lugnuts (13-24, 45-61) in front of 6,275 fans at Cooley Law School Stadium on Tuesday night.

Allen (Win, 6-6), a 24-year old plucked out of independent baseball, tossed seven innings without surrendering a run, allowing just five hits to the Lugnuts. He issued one walk and struck out five in the win.

He got run-support from his offense in the form of a run in each the second, third, fourth and eighth innings.

An RBI triple by Carter Bell plated South Bend's first run before an RBI groundout by Breland Almadova in the third inning.

In the fourth, Roidany Aguila scored his second run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Mike Lang, and the scoring was capped in the eighth on a wild pitch from reliever Efrain Nieves.

Aguila finished 3-for-3 with a walk, scoring two of South Bend's four runs.

Daniel Norris (Loss, 0-7) gave up the first three runs to the Silver Hawks, pitching four total innings in the loss. Despite striking out six hitters, Norris allowed the three runs on six hits, issuing just one walk.

Nieves pitched well in his relief, tossing 3.1 innings with seven strikeouts with his only run being unearned.

In the losing effort, both Dwight Smith, Jr. and Emilio Guerrero had multi-hit games, slugging two hits apiece. Smith also had an outfield assist in the top of the ninth, throwing out Pedro Ruiz trying to tag from third base.
