Back to School Bash held this weekend

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Kids in the community got a chance to brainstorm ways to stomp out bullying at the Back to School Bash on Saturday.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority partnered to host a Back to School Bash at the City Youth Ministries.

Students who attended the event teamed up to design posters on ways to stop bullying in schools. The bash also included speakers who spoke on the issue.

Staff members say the bash also acts as an effort to get the kids geared up for the school year around the corner.

Vera Forrest is with the Delta Sigma Theta and said more people came than expected.

"Last year we only had a few," said Forrest. "And it was held at ASU and this year we have pretty much tripled that number so it's a great turnout and we appreciate City Youth partnering with us."

Kids that attended the bash also received backpacks full of school supplies.

Thanksgiving is a time to be with loved ones and enjoy good food, but since that is not an option for everyone, members of the Jonesboro community came together to make sure as many people as possible were fed.
