1039th recognized at Freedom Salute

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Nearly 95 soldiers with the Marked Tree and Harrisburg based 1039th Army National Guard, participated in the Freedom Salute Sunday afternoon.

"It's just a good thing we can do to give back to the community, and to recognize those who stood out," said 1039th Commander Seth Jacob.

It's been a long journey for the 1039th. From their deployment send-off in June of 2012, to their homecoming this past May. The Freedom Salute recognizes one another, and those who have supported them along the way.

"An award can't say enough really," said Jacob. "It's great to bring everyone together to do it formally, but the things that we give in gratitude, are nothing compared to the support we received while we were over there."

However, it's not just family members who are recognized. Those in the community also receive awards.

"Some of the local organizations that supported us, we nominated them for certain awards," said Jacob.
