Craighead Co. deputies make one arrest in Jonesboro accident

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Craighead County deputies were dispatched to Hwy. 49 around 8 p.m. Sunday in response to an accident.

Sgt. Brian Skinner said when they arrived on scene, they found an overturned car. Deputies could not tell if anyone was inside the car.

Both Jonesboro and Valley View Fire Departments were called to the scene to overturn the vehicle and search for survivors.

No one was found inside the car but Skinner told Region 8 News they believe the people involved ran away soon after the accident.

One person has been arrested. The Craighead County Sheriff's Department is looking for the second suspect.

"They were traveling northbound on 49," said Sgt. Skinner. "[They] started to negotiate a right-hand curve and they traveled off the roadway, went into a ditch and overturned approximately two times."

Hwy. 49 was shut down for about three hours and traffic was diverted to Hwy. 226 and Craighead County road 203 as emergency crews worked the scene.

We'll continue to track the details of this story.
