BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Tigers took the field Wednesday morning with just over three weeks to go before playing the TCU Horned Frogs.

Here's a few Quick Hits from this morning's practice:

True freshman defensive back Rickey Jefferson is a physical freak. This kid looks like a piece of iron and certainly seems to have the build to be hitting SEC ball carriers in his first season. Jefferson is listed as 5'11 and 199 pounds.

2012 WAFB-TV Warrick Dunn Award Winner (Our player of the year for the Sportsline Friday Night viewing area) Kendell Beckwith also looks very imposing. The former East Feliciana star could be swallowing up running backs from his linebacker spot and is listed at 6'3, 246 pounds.

With Stephen Rivers entering his third year with the program and true freshman Anthony Jennings making a big move in the spring, many people may have forgotten about fellow quarterback and former Penn State Nittany Lion Rob Bolden. But as he recovers from a knee injury, Bolden continues to work hard as a junior, hoping to one day get an opportunity. He saw no game action in 2012.

Running back Jeremy Hill continues to work his way back into circulation, alongside veteran backs Kenny Hilliard, Alfred Blue and massive bowling ball JC Copeland.

Coach Miles spent time again today with the offensive line. The big question is right tackle. With Vadal Alexander's absence, will Chris Hawkins start the season with the first team?

Head coach Les Miles had a fun one-on-one visit with local sportswriter Les East. Miles joked with East about the writer's bright attire and fedora hat. "Is that a New Orleans thing?" Miles asked. "Uh, sort of. I don't know where it was made," East replied. The "Mad Hatter" then said he had a hat like it. East asked the coach if he would be wearing his fedora anytime soon. Miles politely said no, "perhaps only at home and very informal places."

For a while, it looked like the college football world was going to be upended in the first week of play, but it all worked out according to plan in the end.

Jeremy Johnson passed for 243 yards and two touchdowns in the first half and Nick Marshall returned from suspension with a 19-yard scoring run to lift No. 6 Auburn to a 45-21 opening victory over Arkansas on Saturday.
The Auburn offense didn't slow down a bit, even with Nick Marshall a spectator for half the game.

Blake Sims was good enough to finish his first start at quarterback for Alabama, getting plenty of help from Amari Cooper, T.J. Yeldon and Derrick Henry, and the second-ranked Crimson Tide held off West Virginia...
Blake Sims took a seat on the bench next to Jake Coker after leading Alabama to a score and the two chatted for a few minutes before it was time for the offense to go back on the field.
