JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- A Jonesboro girl decided to empty her piggy bank in order to donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"I feel sorry for them and they are going through a rough time," said 10-year-old Gracie Redwine.

It took Gracie and her grandmother, Shirley several years to reach a good amount.

"We'd put them in there, she'd put them in their, I'd put it in there, she had all those pennies so I told her it would be a good place to put them," Shirley said.

Until finally she reached a grand total of $158.22.  Shirley says her granddaughter truly has a big heart.

"I think that she realizes how hard it is to lose somebody," she said. "She lost her dad two years ago just two days after her 8th birthday."

Shirley said Gracie decided to donate to St. Jude's after seeing a survivor story on the Internet.

"It makes me feel real proud of her to know that she wants to do that," she said.

And Gracie is not done yet, she has already decided on her next project.

"She's going to donate money to the animal shelter next," Shirley said. "She sees a lot of commercials about St. Jude's Children's Hospital and she sees a lot of commercials about the animals and it just breaks her heart."

But Gracie is also asking the community to step in and make a donation.

"If they can beat mine, how much money I had," Gracie's said.

Liberty Bank in Joneboro has opened a benefit account for this cause where anyone can make a donation.
