AU Tigers hold first scrimmage of 2013 preseason

The Auburn Tigers held their first scrimmage of the 2013 preseason Wednesday afternoon, working 107 plays during the practice session. Thunderstorms moved the practice from Jordan-Hare Stadium to the indoor practice facility at the Auburn Athletics Complex.

"We went 107 plays with three groups rotating in and out," Coach Gus Malzahn said about the scrimmage. "Our four quarterbacks played equal reps, and they were live – tackle football. We wanted to give them the opportunity to make plays.

"This was an evaluation scrimmage; our goal was to get more information to help us moving forward. When you are evaluating guys, you have to narrow things down. There are things we need to correct, but the offense and the defense both made plays.

"We had planned on going at the stadium, but the storm came up and there was water on the field, so we moved indoors."

Thursday will be the first two-a-day practice for the Tigers during the 2013 preseason. Auburn's season opener is Saturday, August 31, at Jordan-Hare Stadium versus Washington State in a 6 p.m. Central kickoff.
